As Mario would say, "here we go!"
Nintendo is getting into the mobile app business.
The company has launched their first app for mobile devices in the United States today.
It's called Miitomo, and the app is described as a social experience that lets friends chat using their own Mii.
The Mii is an avatar users build. You can manipulate everything from its facial expression to its voice to its outfit.
Friends use their Mii character to chat with other friends. Nintendo describes the little animation as a social go between.
The app will also prompt people with questions, like 'what’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?' Users' answers will be sent out to their connections on the app, creating unique discussions.
Friends can respond with a heart, comment or picture. The more you interact, the more points you get to buy items for your Mii, according to Nintendo.
The Miitomo app was released earlier this year in Japan—and Nintendo states it had more than one million downloads in the first three days of availability.
The app is free to download starting today and available for iOS and Android devices.
