(WXYZ) — A now-deleted post that went viral on Facebook claimed that police in Lapeer were checking receipts at a Home Depot for essential items and issuing tickets, but that post was false.

Lapeer police posted on Facebook that on Thursday afternoon they handled a private property vehicle crash at the Home Depot.

No one was injured in the crash, and "the story that has been posted and attached to the photo of the Officer handling the crash is false," they said.

The original post and photo have since been deleted from Facebook.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer extended Michigan's stay-at-home order until May 1 on Thursday.
