OWOSSO, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Steam Railroading Institute announced Wednesday that the annual North Police Express and fall color tours will not happen this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the institute, the operation of excursion trains is among high-risk activities as it brings large groups of people together in enclosed spaces.
It's the first time in 16 years the Pere Marquette will not leave the station from Owosso for the North Pole Express.
The institute said that the events provide them with year-round funding, and now, they are suffering from a great financial void and revenue has temporarily stopped. They are asking for donations.
