You can take home a new furry four-legged friend for free during Oakland County’s “Empty the Shelters” event.

County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is urging families to adopt one of dozens of pets available at the Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center on Saturday, October 22.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation will pay all adoption fees for a dog or cat.

“Our goal is to adopt out as many dogs and cats as we can to loving families," Patterson said.

“We truly would like to see our pet adoption center emptied out on Saturday,” said Bob Gatt, manager of Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center. “We are grateful to the BISSELL Pet Foundation for making this event possible.”

“Empty the Shelters” is a statewide event with more than 50 shelters participating.

Individuals or families who wish to adopt a dog or a cat will be screened to ensure they can provide a proper home for their pet.

Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center is located at 1700 Brown Road in Auburn Hills. They offer housing and medical care to more than 4,000 animals yearly. It has the best “save rate” in Michigan among public open-admission shelters whose intakes are greater than 4,000 animals.
