The Oakland County Sheriff K-9 will receive a bullet and stab protective vest, the Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.
Gunner, their 3-year-old yellow lab, will receive a new five pound vest, which is valued at about $2,000.
The vest was donated by the Massachusetts-based non-profit, Vested Interest in K9s. It is custom-made by a Michigan-based company, Armor Express.
“We are forever grateful of this donation to K-9 Gunner, who is such an asset to our entire K-9 team,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
Gunner is certified by the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers in narcotics detection. He has been assigned to the Oakland County Narcotic Enforcement Team for over a year.
