PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Officials with the Catholic High School League, Detroit Catholic Central, and Brother Rice High School say they are looking into a brawl that reportedly happened between Brother Rice and Detroit Catholic Central.

Officials with the CHSL have released the following statement describing what happened:

The Catholic High School League (CHSL) is aware of an altercation that took place recently between students of Brother Rice, an independent Catholic high school in Bloomfield Township run by the Christian Brothers, and Detroit Catholic Central, an independent Catholic high school in Novi run by the Congregation of St. Basil. The incident took place Dec. 7 in a parking lot outside the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, following the 2019 CHSL Championship hockey game between the two schools.

This unfortunate incident does not reflect the Catholic values upheld by both schools and the CHSL community at-large. CHSL leadership would like to express its relief that no one was badly hurt. Administrations at both schools have been in close contact with CHSL and are fully cooperating in an investigation into the incident. The schools agree that students found to have engaged in wrongdoing will be disciplined accordingly, up to and including expulsion.

Out of concern for the privacy of those involved, CHSL will have no further comment.
Vic Michaels, Director of CHSL

Officials with Brother Rice have released the following statement:

Brother Rice High School is working with The Detroit Catholic League to address a physical altercation between students following the December 7th hockey game. We expect all students to follow our code of conduct policies while attending school events. The safety of all students and attendees is our highest priority at every athletic event. To respect and maintain student privacy, we are not able to provide further details at this point.
Tom Reidy, President, Brother Rice High School

Catholic Central issued the following statement regarding the incident:

We are aware of the incident after a hockey game in Plymouth during which two of our students were attacked by a group of individuals who do not attend our school. We are grateful to God that no one was seriously injured, and out of respect for the privacy of our students we do not have any further comment at this time.
