DETROIT (WXYZ) — There is no danger of any potential water quality issues after the dock collapse of the Revere Copper Site, the Great Lakes Water Authority says.

The GLWA says that it has two raw water intakes in the Detroit River. One is located several miles upstream of the Detroit Storage site, where a portion partially collapsed into the river last week. The GLWA says that because it is upstream of the site, there is no danger of any potential water quality issues for the collapse.

The second intake is downstream of the site and is located on the Canadian side of the river. The GLWA says that it is not in the direct flow stream where the land collapsed.

Currently, the GLWA says it is in the process of conducting testing for radionuclides.

The location of the Revere Copper Site once had radioactive contamination and was a former munitions site for the United States Department of Defense. A Canadian official previously called for an immediate bi-national investigation into the collapse.
