A fundraiser in Sterling Heights on Saturday is expected to raise thousands of dollars for fallen hero, Captain Kenny Steil of the Detroit Police Department.

The Stevenson High School Class of 1988 organized the fundraiser at Roger’s Roost in Sterling Heights.  That is Steil’s graduating class.

The money raised through ticket sales, the silent auction and simple donations will go directly to his widow and two boys, ages 3 & 5.

Steil’s mom and sister were just a few of the family members in attendance.

"This is just fantastic, I had no idea they would have so many people here tonight,” said Diane Steil, Capt. Kenny Steil’s mom.

"Coming in here today I knew it was going to be a little bit hard just because I've had some downtime since the funeral and everything was so overwhelming, but I'm really glad I came because I can see how loved he was.  He's made an impact on so many people throughout his life,” said Karen Tonn, Capt. Kenny Steil’s sister.

They said hearing old stories about Steil and celebrating his life made the evening wonderful.

"He didn't even tell me half if these stories, I'm hearing stories from everybody how he helped them,” said Diane Steil.

"It's very humbling to hearing some of these stories, he didn't come home from work and tells us he saved someone's life or what he did,” said Tonn.
