Michigan's hometown heroes on the ice finally answered the question that's been hanging over their heads for years.

Meryl Davis and Charlie White will not be competing for the 2018 Olympic Games.

The ice dancing pair announced the news on NBC's Today Show on Wednesday morning.

"I hate to be a little bit of a downer, maybe for our fans, but we've decided not to compete at the Olympics," White said.

The Michigan natives won gold at Sochi in 2014, and said they'll be focusing on their personal lives and their successful Stars On Ice tour.

"There's so many positives to competing, but I think just expanding our lives outside of competitive skating is what we're enjoying so much in our life right now."

In November, Davis and White helped kick off our Tree Lighting special at Campus Martius, and spent the day discussing why their personal lives emerged as the leading factor to step away from Olympic competition, should they decide to do so.
