HAZEL PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — One person is in custody following an officer-involved shooting in Hazel Park Friday.
The Hazel Park Police Department confirmed one of their officers fired three shots at a car that reversed and was being driven toward her.
On April 24 around 1:31 a.m. a Hazel Park police officer located a 2010 red Chevrolet HHR parked in the parking lot of a vacant building at E. Woodward Heights and Battelle.
The officer approached the vehicle on foot and spoke with the lone 32-year-old female occupant in the driver’s seat. The officer saw narcotics in the vehicle and asked the female to get out of the car.
The woman drive off from the officer in the vehicle. Another female officer saw the suspect vehicle pull into a residential driveway on Carlisle, south of Woodward Heights.
The officer stopped her vehicle and got out in an attempt to find the driver. The officer approached the vehicle from its rear at which point the vehicle moved in reverse at the officer.
The officer attempted to move away from the vehicle and discharged her firearm at the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled forward, turning in the front yard and fleeing, police say.
A third officer arrived and pursued the vehicle to W. Woodward Heights and N.Chrysler Service drive. The suspect vehicle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant before stopping.
The suspect female then fled on foot from officers before being tackled and taken into custody.
The suspect was assessed at a local hospital due to the traffic crash and cleared for incarceration pending charges to be reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor.
No one was struck by bullets or was injured in the incident, according to police.
