The most successful traditions usually require a lot of thought, planning and commitment! ARISE Detroit is a textbook example. The grassroots community organization is approaching its 12th annual Neighborhoods Day. But true to form, ARISE has been aggressively developing its citywide beautification and empowerment programs all year long.
The deadline for teaming up with ARISE for its Saturday, August 4th event is July 15th. If you have a community initiative you would like to link to ARISE’s support expertise, now is the time to sign up.
ARISE isn’t Detroit’s annual cleanup day. It’s much more. It’s a day where more than 400 churches, block clubs, businesses and community groups come together to improve the quality of life in local neighborhoods. The effort includes sprucing up buildings, as well as hosting festivals, information fairs, concerts and back to school events. Parenting, mentoring and anti-violence workshops are also a key part of the day.
Volunteers are the backbone of Neighborhoods Day and for a project this ambitious, there can never be too many. Detroiters have demonstrated their fondness for this program which showcases the pride and spirit of city neighborhoods. It also bridges together a powerful and diverse network of resources available to residents.
We at Channel 7 are proud to be one of the many partners of ARISE Detroit’s Neighborhoods Day. Under the leadership of Executive Director Luther Keith and his staff, it’s an action oriented program that truly touches the soul of Michigan’s largest city. Sign up now on our link at WXYZ.com.
