The Royal Oak City Commission meet to negotiate the terms of a development agreement, which would result in the city putting more than $5 million in escrow, as they move forward with a massive plan to redevelop their civic center.
Greenspace, surrounded by new city buildings, an office tower, and parking structures, means surrounding surface lots will be eliminated. Including those used by the farmers market and main street businesses.
This has caused some concern and opposition from those affected.
“Almost every business with patrons that park, would be concerned about this,” says business owner Greg Stanalajczo.
“Having multiple projects, will devastate most of our businesses.”
The city says however, those parking structures will add more spaces than those lost, and the added jobs in that office tower will mean more daytime business.
