Owner dragged by car when trying to retrieve dogs from alleged thieves

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man was walking his two dogs when suspects in a car attempted to steal them. The victim was dragged temporarily by the car when trying to retrieve one of the dogs, police say.

The incident happened Wednesday at 6:45 p.m in a subdivision near Middlebelt Road between Northwestern Highway and 14 Mile Road.

According to a police report, the victim was walking his two dogs when they were taken by two or three suspects who had exited a passing vehicle. The suspects drove away with the dogs, however, the victim latched on the the fleeing vehicle and was dragged a short distance before getting one dog back.

The stolen dog is described as a 1-year-old, 5-pound, brown male Maltese/Yorkie mix. The dog's name is Hennessy.

Police say the suspects are described as black males in their teens to early 20s. The driver of the vehicle is described as a black female in her teens or early 20s. The vehicle is a silver, sub-compact car. It may have been a Chevy, Aveo or Spark.
