Vaughn Derdarian, owner of Anchor Bar in Detroit, will be selling it to The Elia Group, according to a press release sent by The Elia Group.

Located at 450 W. Fort St. in downtown Detroit, Anchor Bar's menu will remain intact and include a handful of new offerings.

The president of the Birmingham-based company said he plans to keep the integrity of the bar.

“I plan on changing very little in order to maintain the integrity of the bar and find creative ways to accentuate the legendary moments that the bar has played in the city’s history,” said Zaid Elia, President, The Elia Group.

Additionally, Elia plans on adding quotes and stories from Derdarian throughout the aesthetic of the bar as an homage to the former owner and his family.

“He wants me to write down my 10 favorite stories about the bar and he wants to characterize them on the wall. The FBI raid (in 1971) is the greatest story,” said Derderian.

Many of the photos of deceased customers, including journalists and Detroit luminaries, will remain intact.
