Parole hearing for 'White Boy Rick' scheduled for Thursday

Posted

A public parole hearing for Richard Wershe, Jr., a.k.a. "White Boy Rick," is scheduled for Thursday, June 8 at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson.

The hearing comes less than two months after the Michigan Parole Board voted in favor of giving Wershe a parole hearing.

The former drug dealer was convicted in 1988 with Possession with Intent to Deliver Over 650 Grams of Cocaine and sentenced to life in prison.

He was just a teenager when he was convicted and was also working for the FBI to help nab other drug dealers.

Wershe is currently Michigan's longest-serving prison for a non-violent crime.

A "White Boy Rick" movie is currently shooting with actor Matthew McConaughey playing Wershe's father in the film. Wershe will be played by 15-year-old Richie Meritt, who was discovered in Baltimore during a nationwide talent search.

The film's other big names are Jennifer Jason Leigh, who will be playing an FBI agent; two-time Oscar® nominee Bruce Dern as Rick’s grandfather and three-time Oscar® nominee Piper Laurie as Rick’s grandmother.
