Ann Arbor police are working to identify the driver who died after slamming into an Ann Arbor home.

Police say the speeding car was going east down Washtenaw Ave. and missed poles, trees and signs before the crash.

The driver, a man, crashed into the living room of a condo inside the home that has been vacant for more than a year now. The occupants of the other two condos weren't home.

"Looks like we went up right of the mouth of the sidewalk where the two sidewalks meet, and went up through the yard and into the house without striking anything until it actually hit the pillar of the house," Ann Arbor Police Sgt. Bill Clock said.

When police arrived and found out the driver died, they had to work to secure the building. With one of the columns knocked down, they used a jack to hold the balcony up.

Police are trying to piece together exactly what happened. It is too early to know if the driver was having a medical emergency before the crash or if he was distracted.
