FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accidental drowning that happened on Lake Erie near the Brest Bay area in Frenchtown Township Saturday morning.
Around 9:00 a.m., deputies and medics responded to Sterling State Park boat launch for a medical call. A preliminary investigation revealed a person fell into the water from a boat while fishing.
Deputies say several others who were with the person were able to get the subject out of the water and begin life saving measures to no avail. The subject was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The investigation is ongoing.
