DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — City leaders in Dearborn Heights look to limit the number of hookah establishments within city lines.

Tuesday, at a city council meeting, dozens of residents spoke out against a hookah lounge opening near Ford and Telegraph. It's called Sky Lounge. The owner has locations in Dearborn and Detroit.

Neighbors in Dearborn Heights did not hold back during public comment about the controversial social club.

"We don't want you here. It's that simple," one resident told the owner.

An attorney for the company said the city had already issued the permits and licenses to prepare the site to open. A spokesperson for the owner said they've invested $500,000 at the location.

Meantime, neighbors fear it could put a strain on emergency resources and invite trouble near their homes.

Action News will continue to follow this developing story.
