Melvindale police have arrested a 42-year-old man from Allen Park on suspicion of child abuse.

It all started around 3:30 Thursday morning. A woman told them that she'd left her little boy with her ex-husband, while she went to work. She says when she came back around 2:30 this morning to the house on S. Dearborn, her son was hiding in a closet and had bruises on his body.

Police have arrested the ex-husband, who is not the father of the little boy. Investigators say the 3-year-old did have bruises on his face and back, and an injury to his head.

The suspect's sister, who we are not identifying, says something doesn't add up.

She says, "I'm terrified for him. I know what a caring father and grandfather he is .. never in a million years would
he hurt a child."

She says her brother does have a criminal history and has had struggles with drugs, but she does not
believe he is capable of harming children.

Action News tried speaking with the mother of the boy, but nobody was home when we stopped by.

The suspect's sister says she hopes police will look into exactly what happened and find the truth. She insists
that the mother of the 3-year-old and her brother are still legally married.

Her thoughts are also with that 3-year-old.

"I really hope the little boy is okay," she says.

So far, no charges have been filed against the 42-year-old from Allen Park.

Police say they are still investigating.
