HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Five suspects believed to be responsible for a Sunday night carjacking in Harper Woods are in custody, according to the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety.

On Jan. 13 around 9:30 p.m., an 18-year-old woman and 16-year-old girl were sitting in their car on Tyrone and Bournemouth, when two male suspects armed with handguns approached them.

The teens were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint and ran away to seek help from nearby residents, who called police.

Officers located the carjacked vehicle within five hours of the original incident and began the search for the suspects.

On Jan. 16, Harper Woods detectives and the A.C.T.I.O.N. Auto Theft team executed a search warrant an apartment complex on Rockcastle. Six people inside the apartment were arrested. Police say five of the individuals were identified as co-conspirators in the carjacking.

The five suspects are being held without bond pending charged from Wayne County prosecutors. Detectives also found evidence from the apartment, including the handgun used in the carjacking.
