Detroit standoff ends with St. Clair Co. suspect dead of self-inflicted wound

(9:04 a.m.) The barricaded gunman situation on Detroit's southwest side has ended, police said.

According to Detroit police, the suspect was found fatally shot from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

(8:30 a.m.) Detroit police are on scene of a barricaded gunman situation in southwest Detroit. Police believe the suspect is David White, a kidnapping suspect out of St. Clair County, Mich.

Police were called to the scene early Saturday morning in the 2200 block of S Liddesdale Street on Detroit's southwest side.

When they arrived, police said they heard one shot. The suspect told officers he had a gun to his head, police added.

Nearby residents are asked to shelter in place. No evacuations have been ordered.

White is believed to be alone in an upstairs bedroom.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, White is wanted in connection with a home invasion, armed robbery and kidnapping.
