A suspect is in custody after a police chase that ended in Grand Blanc Township Wednesday morning.

Police say a trooper conducted a traffic stop on Dixie Hwy near I-75 in Groveland Township for speeding. The driver appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Police say when the trooper asked the driver to exit the vehicle, the driver refused.

The suspect became combative and attempted to drive away with the trooper half in the car, police say. The trooper was able to free himself and was not injured.

Police say the chase began as the suspect fled north on I-75 in a black Malibu and continued into Grand Blanc Township at over 100 miles per hour. The suspect drove in circles on the freeway, finally exiting.

Michigan State Police was able to deploy stop sticks on Saginaw Street near Hill Street, but the driver continued on the flat tire.

Eventually, the driver stopped on Boland and Rollins Road and ran away. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
