CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — 7 Action News has obtained, through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), dashcam footage of a chase involving a psychiatric patient who stole a MedStar ambulance and led officers through multiple jurisdictions.

The chase started Saturday afternoon in Groesbeck near North Avenue. The psychiatric patient, 42-year-old Gunnar Theodore Ahlson, was being transported from McLaren Hospital, and was able to steal the ambulance by overpowering two MedStar employees during transport.

Clinton Township officers followed the stolen ambulance westbound on Hall Road near Romeo Plank. Then the Macomb County Sheriff's Office joined. Two of the Macomb deputies had their vehicles hit in the process of the chase. One of those deputies was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a tree near the intersection of Schoenherr and 23 Mile roads in Shelby Township.

Ahlson was video arraigned at 41-B District Court Monday.
