ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police have ended a possible barricaded gunman situation at a motel in St. Clair Shores from overnight.

Around 9 p.m. Thursday evening, the St. Clair Shores Police Department and Fire Department responded to the Shore Pointe Motor Lodge on 20000 E. 9 Mile.

Officers say they were responding due to a lodge guest called for medical assistance.

The caller indicated he was not feeling well and was possibly having a breakdown, according to police. As officers were approaching, gunshots could be heard coming from within the caller's room. The responding officers and paramedics immediately took cover and began evacuating other lodge guests from the area, police say.

Witnesses reported seeing the caller with an AK-47 rifle earlier in the day, police say.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, all attempts to communicate with the caller had failed. SCSPD Emergency Response Team (SWAT) arrived on scene and attempted to resolve the situation peacefully.

At 3:15 a.m., officers say they made entry into the caller's room and found him deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
