Police investigating fatal train versus pedestrian accident in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Royal Oak police are investigating a fatal pedestrian versus train accident Saturday.

On Dec. 14 around 6:35 a.m., the Royal Oak Police Department responded to the CN Railroad crossing near the intersection of E. Harrison and S. Main Street on a report of a train versus pedestrian accident.

Police say the initial investigation indicated a 50-year-old Warren man walked onto the railroad tracks, outside of a designated traffic/pedestrian crossing and into the face of an oncoming Canadian National freight train. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Right now, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the incident, police say.

The Royal Oak Police Department, along with the CN Railroad Police are currently investigating the incident.
