Person of interest in custody in Dearborn Heights shooting that killed 17-year-old

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A person of interest is in custody after a shooting in Dearborn Heights that killed a 17-year-old from Inkster.

A 16-year-old was also injured in the shooting.

A woman said her 16-year-old son left his house on Lehigh near Michigan and was headed to a gas station when out of nowhere, she says someone started shooting at him.

She said he was shot in the rear and he ran back to their home. He was taken to the hospital and later released.

Shortly after, police say they were notified about a second man at a a hospital in the city of Wayne, who was also shot but later died.

Police say they do not believe the shooting was random and all involved have been identified.

"We are confident that there is no threat to the community," police said.
