(WXYZ) — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred near the Wayne State University campus in Detroit on Feb. 23.

A Wayne State University Police Department officer was dispatched to a party store at Third and W. Forest on a man who was bleeding from the head and refusing to leave the store.

The 25-year-old complainant told the officers that minutes earlier, he heard the sounds of shots being fired, but wasn't sure he was hit. The subject had an apparent gunshot wound to the left side of his head.

Police asked the subject for information regarding the shooter and location of the incident, but the subject was non-specific in his reply, saying, "In those apartments, the projects."

The man was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

After further questioning, officers say the incident occurred on the south side of Warren Avenue, west of the Lodge Freeway, according to video footage.

The footage shows an unknown man firing shots in the direction of where the victim was standing on the sidewalk. The shooter is then seen running southbound into the Freedom Place Townhouse complex.

WSUPD says WSU students, staff and faculty, as well as area residents, should take additional precautions in the area.
