Authorities say a 51-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the 1991 killing of a Midland County woman.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that sheriff detectives and Michigan State Police took the man into custody Thursday on recently authorized charges of felony murder and first-degree premeditated murder.

According to the sheriff's office, Diane Ross was sleeping in her bed in August 1991 when she was confronted by a masked assailant.

She was severely beaten.

The sheriff's office says detectives reviewed the case in 2012 and additional investigation began in early 2013. Recent investigation found more information, including additional witnesses and physical evidence.

Authorities say an arraignment for the man will be held Friday morning.
