A man tried to abduct a child near an elementary school in Gibraltar Sunday afternoon, police say.

It happened at about 12:25 p.m. in front of Parsons Elementary School on Gibraltar Road.

Police said the child immediately ran away and notified his parents of the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30's, driving a black F-150 single cab pickup truck. He was also wearing a black bed cap, police said.

The vehicle was last seen traveling south on Fryer from Gibraltar Road, then east on Navarre Street, according to police.

Police will be increasing patrols around all Gibraltar Schools tomorrow morning, and school will remain open, a district spokesperson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Gibraltar Police Department at 734-676-1022.
