Two police officers from the Auburn Hills Police Department are being called heroes after saving a man from a burning home.

It happened Sunday on the 1700 block of Opdyke, just after midnight.

Auburn Hills Police discovered smoke rising from the man's house when they arrived on scene.

Two officers forced their way inside the home that was filled with heavy smoke.

They eventually found a 72-year old man in the living room, unable to get out on his own.

Police managed to move the man to the front yard. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The man told investigators he was smoking in his bed that evening.

The officers involved were taken to the hospital, but they have since been released.

Investigators determined smoking caused the fire.
