PD: Man barricaded in Pittsfield Township apartment taken into custody

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man was taken into police custody after he barricaded himself inside an apartment in Pittsfield Township where gunshots were reported early Tuesday morning, police said.

It started just before 2 a.m. in the Glencoe Hills Apartments complex off of Washtenaw Avenue just east of US-23.

Police say they were dispatched on a report of shots fired within the building. When they arrived, they heard additional shots being fired from one of the apartment units.

Members of the apartments nearby were evacuated and people were asked to avoid the area.

The man, a 59-year-old of Pittsfield Township, was taken into custody without further incident just before 4 a.m. by the Washtenaw County Metro SWAT Team.

He was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Charges are being reviewed by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office.
