HOWELL, Mich. (WXYZ) — A mother and son were both found dead in their Howell home on Nov. 6, following a welfare check, police say.
The two were found Wednesday, Nov. 6 around 10 p.m. when Howell police went to a residence inside the Howell Estates Mobile Home Community.
Police were told the residents had not been seen since Oct. 25. When officers arrived, they found untouched mail and packages on the front porch. Howell police had assistance from the Howell Fire Department gaining entry into the home.
Once inside, officers found two bodies that were determined to be mother and son. The deceased are identified as Kim Mathewson, 62, and Shawn W. Mathewson, 39.
Police say they had been dead for some time, and there is suspicion of foul play because of the condition of the bodies.
An autopsy revealed that Kim Mathewson died from blunt force trauma to the head. Investigators have labeled her death a homicide. The cause of death of the son, Shawn, is pending toxicology results.
