HOWELL (WXYZ) — The Howell Police Department addressed the public Sunday saying that social media threats about 'burning down Howell" have not been credible, however, investigators are continuing to monitor the situation.

"First of all we would like to thank our citizens for bringing to our attention the recent social media chatter about 'burning down Howell,'" a post on the City of Howell Michigan Police Department Facebook page said. "We are in the process of doing threat assessments on these posts."

The department says that currently, the threats are not credible. They add that any potential posts encouraging this type of action in the city does "not represent the mentality of" the city's residents, the department said.
