Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a 17-year-old boy in Roseville.

The shooting happened late Tuesday night, around 10:40 p.m. The first police officers to arrive found the young man lying on the sidewalk on Pinehurst, one block south of 12 Mile Road.

“I heard a female voice ask the ambulance people, ‘Is he still breathing?’” recalled Dela Shotes, who has lived in the area most of her life. “That was seriously one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Shotes was on the phone when she heard the first gunshot — she told 7 Action News she didn’t want to believe it was a gunshot, but when more followed she was certain. She dialed 9-1-1 and looked out her window where she saw two figures, but noted it was too dark to make out what exactly was going on.

Police are still trying to piece together details about a possible suspect — they note that the shooter was a man, and likely in his 20s. Few other details are available, and police have declined to release information about the victim.

“At the end of the day, it’s a 17-year-old kid. Regardless of circumstance, it’s a tragedy,” said Bryan Shishakly.

Shishakly had just left his house when his fiancee called him to explain she heard what she believed to be fireworks shortly before police started showing up around the corner from their home. The father rushed home, concerned about his wife.

“I’ve got a daughter at home, a fiancee that I’m worried about,” he said. “I’m just glad they’re safe.”

Police are urging the public to contact them if they have information about Tuesday night’s shooting. At this time they’re trying to piece together information about a car that may have been connected to the crime — further details are not available at this time.
