INGHAM COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ingham County Sheriff's deputies and local law enforcement are on the hunt for an inmate who escaped from his cell at the Ingham County Jail.

According to the Sheriff's Office, around 5:46 a.m. Friday, a corrections deputy found that inmate Michael David McKerchie was not in his cell when he was supposed to be.

Details surrounding the escape are being investigated, deputies say. But certain details will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Police say McKerchie has been in jail since his arrest on Sept. 21 for an unlawful driving away of an automobile from Dunkin Donuts on Okemos Road, reckless driving causing serious impairment and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious impairment.

His bond for these charges is $250,000.00, and he has a no bond hold out of Calhoun County.

Residents are asked to take notice of McKerchie's neck tattoo.

Anyone who has information about McKerchie’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
