A search is underway for the person who broke into a home and assaulted two women in their 40s. Both women are described as vulnerable adults who lived with a caregiver.

"They couldn’t defend themselves," said Wayne Bernard, who is a member of the Wadsworth Community Block Club.

It happened early Tuesday morning at a home on Castleton Street. It is in the area of Schaefer Highway and Plymouth on Detroit's west side.

Police say the man got in through a side window and then attacked one of the women downstairs and sexually assaulted her.

Police say another woman saw the assault, and that's when the suspect attacked her and forced her back upstairs. She was not sexually assaulted, according to police.

Police collected evidence at the scene.

We're waiting for an update on the women's condition.

The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing a long black jacket and had a white towel over his face. He was armed with a knife, according to police.

Neighbors say they have complained to the city before about the abandoned houses that surround the house where it happened.

"There are too many abandoned houses around one house. Nobody is watching," said Bernard.

If you have any information regarding this incident, you are asked to call Detroit Police.
