Ann Arbor police say the student who said she was struck in the head and knocked unconscious during a robbery Saturday afternoon near the campus of the University of Michigan lied.

The 21-year-old originally told police the incident happened at about 4:50 p.m. on the 700 block of South State Street and that her wallet and jewelry were stolen.

Police say an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the false report.
