OAKLAND COUNTY (WXYZ) — A 25-year-old Pontiac resident has been charged with assault and battery after allegedly spitting on health care professionals at McLaren Hospital on May 15.
Patrick Michael Crawford is charged with several counts of assault and battery and one count of disorderly person after the incident at McLaren Hospital.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office arrived at McLaren Oakland Hospital, 50 N. Perry St., after receiving reports of a patient who was assaulting emergency room medical staff.
The patient had allegedly become argumentative and began to assault the staff. Crawford was placed in restraints and into an isolation room where he was evaluated by doctors. He then began allegedly making verbal threats and then claimed he was infected with COVID-19, that's when he spit on the attending physician and emergency room staff.
The patient was later arrested and was cleared by a medical physician to be incarcerated, which is when he was taken to the Oakland County Jail.
Crawford's bond was set at $5,000 and he is awaiting his next next court date while at Oakland County Jail.
