A Pontiac mother has been accused of intentionally burning her 1-year-old son with scalding hot water.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to an assist medical call on May 19 to the 100 block of Apple Lane in Pontiac.

Upon arrival, EMS was treating a 1-year-old boy who had burns to his arm, back and forehead.

His mother, Carmen Ann Smith-Portee, told deputies she ran hot water in the bathtub to give him a bath. She indicated that she left the victim in a separate room while she gathered cleaning supplies.

When she returned to the bathroom, she said, the boy was burned and screaming as a result of crying in the bathtub.

She later admitted to placing the child in the scalding hot water in the bathtub intentionally because she'd become frustrated with the child.

Smith-Portee was charged with First Degree Child Abuse and given a $100,000 bond with no 10 percent.

The baby is still in critical, but stable condition.
