On Tuesday, voters approved a proposal in Pontiac that will allow 20 dispensaries and an unlimited amount of growers and processors.
Pontiac voters were given three options: Proposal I, which passed; Proposal II, which would have allowed for four dispensaries and two growers and processors; or Proposal III, which was against medical marijuana altogether.
“Why do we need more drugs?” said Yvonne Love, who voted for Proposal III.
She’s not alone in feeling this way, Proposal III was rejected by only 30 votes.
“I just don’t think Pontiac with all the other problems they got need medical marijuana. They got enough of it being sold on the streets,” said Artherine Jackson.
Both Proposal I and II passed, but in the end, Proposal I takes effect because it had 290 more "yes" votes than Proposal II.
“If it helps a cancer patient. If it helps someone in pain, let them have it,” said Lureatha Thomas.
