Immigrant and union groups will hold rallies across the county today, including here in Detroit, to mark International Workers' Day, more commonly known as May Day.

This year's theme is "Overturn the Trump Agenda."

The Detroit rally is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in Grand Circus Park. Demonstrations will also be held in New York, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend.

Some activist groups - including the statewide immigration coalition Michigan United - are urging people to skip work, school and shopping to show the importance of immigrants in American communities.
