She’s become a national symbol of equality, as the soon to be first Muslim American Congresswoman in history. Fresh off a primary win, Rashida Tlaib is now speaking about her experience. “Most people just know me as Rashida” says Tlaib.

Tlaib comes from Palestinian roots and is now running unopposed for the United States House of Representatives leading into November. “I’m not looking for just a blue wave. I’d rather own the ocean” says Tlaib.

Rashida is also a proud mother who’s already served in the State House as a Democrat. She says her focus is on public health, holding large corporations accountable and equal opportunity for all. She says she’s also ready to stand up to anyone who tries to divide us.

Tlaib is still waiting to learn if she will begin her term in January as scheduled, or sooner based on a special election to fill the seat of former Congressman John Conyers. Tlaib says she’s also excited to represent her community as a Muslim woman. But, she wants people to remember she’s a fighter for everyone.
