REDFORD TWP., Mich. (WXYZ) — UPDATE: Redford Township police have learned that the case involving two police impersonators was in fact federal law enforcement officers conducting a local investigation.

They say the matter is no longer a concern to public.

The Redford Township Police Department is warning the public to be aware of two men posing as police officers in the area.

On a Facebook live video, Officer Jennifer Mansfield addressed the concern. She says that a woman was walking in the area of Plymouth and Hemingway near Taco Bell when two white males approached her. They were driving in two different vehicles described as newer model silver and blue Explorers.

The men asked for the woman's identification, but were not wearing anything police related and did not confirm what police department they were from.

"Even our unmarked cars... unmarked officers, they still have a badge with them somewhere," Mansfield said. "If they're making traffic stops. If they're doing one-on-ones, you're going to find a badge – they're going to have I.D. You're going to see something that identifies them as police."

Mansfield says the men eventually gave the woman her identification back and sent her on her way. Then the woman made a police report.

"If you don't think they're the police, you call 911," Mansfield said, adding that dispatch will help to confirm whether or not the person or persons pulling you over are the police.

No description of clothing was provided for the men, but they were between 5 feet, 7 inches and 6-feet tall.
