Police are at a Detroit home where a 2-year-old has been found dead and he may have been left alone for days.
Officers say a maintenance man found the little boy around 3:00 p.m. His parents were not at the apartment at the time. Police say the maintenance man was checking on a bad odor coming from the apartment.
Officers say there were no signs of trauma and it is not known how the boy died. He was pronounced dead by emergency workers.
Neighbors tell 7 Action News they usually see the boy and his mother every day. However, they hadn't seen them for the last week.
Police say the boy's mother had a medical issue on May 16 and collapsed outside the building. She was taken to an Ann Arbor hospital by ambulance on May 17. The boy's mother was released from the hospital Tuesday. It is not known where she is.
A neighbor says this isn't the first time an ambulance was called for the woman.
"What I believe is that she has some sort of mental disability," says April Fowler. "I'm not sure what it is, it causes her to have certain issues, the ambulance has been here before, police, but other then that, she just walks her baby, pretty much she walks with the stroller, she walks her baby in the stroller every day."
Fowler also says no one heard the little boy crying in the apartment over the last week.
The scene is in the 4400 block of Trumbull, near Wayne State.
