51-year-old hit and killed by wrong way driver in stolen car in Detroit

An 18-year-old is in custody, suspected of driving a stolen car in a wrong way crash that killed a 51-year-old man.

it happened around 8:45 p.m. at Springwells and Gardner in southwest Detroit.

Police say the 18-year-old Hispanic man was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when he ran a red light and hit a blue Saturn Ion.

The 51-year-old who was killed was driving the Saturn.

The 18-year-old was not injured and has been taken into custody.

It is not yet clear what charges he could face.
