Ann Arbor is the number one college city in America, while Detroit ranks at number 376 out of 415 cities and towns, according to a report by WalletHub.
The list was compiled as an important step to choosing a college, as the city will serve as the student's home for several years.
"Experts have argued that a school's geographical location is just as important as a strong curriculum and supportive school environment to a student's academic success and personal development," the report says.
The report compares more than 400 U.S. cities of varying sizes based on indicators of academic, social and economic opportunities.
Three key dimensions for the report were wallet friendliness, social environment and academic & economic opportunities.
