Carjacking and shooting rocks neighborhood on Detroit's west side

DPD units were on the scene Friday afternoon of a carjacking at the intersection of LaSalle and Webb on the city’s west side.

It was around 1:00 p.m. when officers responded to reports of an armed man who shot into a vehicle and carjacked a black Chevy Tahoe. The owner wasn’t hurt.

“It sounded like fireworks,” said a witness who lives at an apartment building in front of the scene.

A number of young children were playing around back at the time of the shooting.

As the suspect fled. He sideswiped at least one other vehicle, causing damage.

Witnesses say a nearby security guard shot at the suspect as well.
