DETROIT (WXYZ) — If you rent a home, an apartment, or a condo, or if you’re thinking about it, or if you know someone who does, the journey you are about to go on with 7 Action News Reporter Andrea Isom is one you do not want to miss.
It's the story of one Detroit man’s dilemma with his dwelling and what you need to know if something like this ever happens to you.
The renter reached out to the management company, the city and 7 Action News. The city has improved on its process, improved on its response times and beefed up the staff as well.
It is important that every renter knows the city of Detroit has a new proactive approach to bringing residential and commercial properties into compliance.
Now, building inspectors are going zip code to zip code daily. While out in the field, they are checking properties for registrations, lead compliance, making sure everything is up to code from top to bottom.
However, they may not know if you are having an issue, unless you speak up! There’s no problem too petty to report. If you do not get the appropriate action and response from your property management or landlord, call the city.
