While funeral arrangements for fallen Wayne State University police officer Collin Rose are being made, many people are showing their support to the family.

A GoFundMe page was started by a student to help raise money for Rose's fiancée.

Investigator Chris Powell said, "He was the light of a room. He was bears to honey. Everybody would befriend him."

Powell and Rose had been friends for the past five years, when Rose joined the Wayne State University Police Department.

Rose died Wednesday after being shot while investigating a report of a car break-in off campus.

Powell and Rose participated in the Police Unity Tour, honoring fallen heroes. They have attended several police funerals throughout the country together.

"I never thought it would be Collin," he says. "But he wouldn't have wanted it to be anybody else."

Rose's family is overwhelmed by the love and support they're receiving, especially when they learned a GoFundMe page was created by a student.

Powell said, "Very touching, it's a surprise."

Brent Steinacker is a senior at Wayne State University studying business management.

"As a person who is dependent on Wayne State Police several times, I've called myself when I've had troubles on campus and they've always sprung to help me," Brent said.

He didn't know Officer Rose or his fiancé Nikki, but he wanted to help the family, so he set up the fundraising page.

In less than 21 more than $16,000 had been raised.

Brent talked to Rose's fiancé via text

"She expressed a lot of thanks to me," he says.

Brent says Officer Rose's death is a reminder the sacrifice police make everyday.

"I think they will be shown a lot more appreciation in the future," he added.

In lieu of flowers - the family is asking for donations to be made to police charities or animal organizations.
