It was after the desperate search to find the person responsible for cutting off a dog's nose and ears went nowhere that the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) decided to form an alliance with Crime Stoppers in hopes of going after all animal abusers.
"A person capable of doing that to an animal is absolutely capable of doing that to a person," said MHS President and Ceo Matt Pepper.
Now, people can report animal abuse and neglect the same way they can anonymously report murder and robbery suspects by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
The information will be passed on to MHS cruelty investigators and local police departments.
"We are just not going to tolerate that kind of foolish, crazy and deviant behavior," said Dan DiBardino, President of Crime Stoppers of Michigan.
